Several illegal gold miners are suspected to have been buried alive in mining shafts at Premier Estate in Mutasa District last Wednesday during a reclamation process of mining fields at Zimgold Fields, along Mutare River.

Speaking during the exhumation process to retrieve bodies of those suspected to have been buried, Mutasa District Civil protection Unit Chairperson Caroline Mudawarivo confirmed that two bodies have already been recovered and that the number of people trapped underground is yet to be established.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said they received reports of the incident, adding that details are still sketchy.
