499 inmates from Manicaland's prisons released under presidential amnesty programme

At least 499 inmates comprising 469 males and 30 females have been released from the five prisons in Manicaland under the presidential amnesty programme.

Inmates were released from Mutare remand prison, Chipinge Rusape Mutare Farm Prison, and Nyazura.

Some of the inmates who spoke to Diamond FM could not hide their joy as they explained their different situations and future prospects out of prison.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner, Elizabeth Banda said inmates released under the prerogative of the President  include all female and juvenile inmates, those aged 60 and above, inmates with health conditions and the disabled .
