Chibuwe High school hosts World Diabetes day commemorations

Today is World Diabetes Day, with the provincial commemorations being held at Chibuwe High school in Chipinge district.

Nurse Mentor with the Medicins San Frontiers, Munyaradzi Mapungwana told Diamond fm that there is still need for more awareness programs in the province and beyond on the importance of diabetes mellitus screening to avoid complications as a result of late diagnosis.

‘There is need to improve screening and awareness for diabetes and hypertension so that people are informed about the risk factors which include obesity, age, being HIV positive.’ he said

He added that his organisation, in collaboration with the MOHCC is working on educating and empowering diabetics on self-management of the condition.

The commemorations are being held under the theme: “Family and Diabetes Mellitus”
