Ministry of Health and Child Care permanent secretary Dr Gerald Gwinji says 574 cases of dog bites were reported in week 25 so far this year. Of these cases 352 were bitten by dogs with unknown vaccination status, 122 were bitten by unvaccinated dogs and 100 were bitten by vaccinated dogs.

Speaking to Diamond FM, Dr Gwinji said the ministry is working towards preventing the spread of rabies through monitoring dog bites . He added that the ministry is facing challenges with stray dogs and encouraged all dog lovers to vaccinate their animals and authorities responsible to continue monitoring dog bites .
