Manica Diamonds have parted ways with head coach Luke Masomere with immediate effect, the club said in a press statement released today.
A press statement released by the club’s Media and Communications department said:
“Manica Diamonds FC announces that head coach Luke Masomere has left the club with immediate effect.
The club would like to thank Luke Masomere for his work during his time at Manica Diamonds FC and to wish him success in the future.
A new caretaker manager will be appointed while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full time head coach.”
This follows the team’s recent poor run of form which includes 4 draws and 3 losses in their last 7 games, including a 2 -0 loss to Black Rhinos at Vengere stadium in Rusape on Saturday.
Masomere has been head coach of the club since its formation in November 2017. He led the club to promotion from the ZIFA Eastern region division one in 2018.
The Gem Boys are currently 11th on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer league table with 19 points from 17 games.
Assistant coach Johannes Nhumwa will take over as interim head coach while the club looks for a new full time head coach.
Sources within the club told Diamond FM that Lloyd Mutasa, Saul Chaminuka and Rodwell Dhlakama among the favourites to land the job on a full time basis with an announcement expected this week.
