Villagers in Mutasa central have appealed to Government for assistance to install pipes that will allow them to pump water from Osbourne Dam for irrigation to improve food security.

Mount Jenya Ward 6 councillor Patrick Mukahanana told Diamond fm that villagers could turn the area into a greenbelt if assisted to utilise the readily available water resource, adding that farming land has already been identified.

He also said efforts were once made by the villagers to purchase pipes but failed to mobilise enough to reach the intended areas.

Osbourne Dam has a total water storage capacity of 400 million cubic metres and water from the dam is periodically released for the benefit of downstream commercial farming activities.
