The Agricultural Rural Development Authority (ARDA) has deployed at least 200 irrigation business development managers under its irrigation schemes countrywide to ensure quality and quantity crop production. In an interview, ARDA Board Chairperson Craig Ivan says that the business development managers, will be assisting farmers with training on production and creation of business models for the communal farmers, adding that they will be working hand in hand with the Department of Agriculture Extension Services (Agritex).In line with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which identifies agriculture as one of the major economic drivers, it is mandatory for irrigation-based projects to operate as business entities.
