The Ministry of Health and Child Care Manicaland says the 3rd round of Poliomyletis Supplementary Immunization program is set commence on the 23rd to the 26th of May targeting all children below five years of age regardless of their vaccination status. Mutare District Health Promotion Officer Mrs Sophia Nezandonyi told Diamond FM that the program which is targeting both rural and urban areas will offer services at all learning institutions, health facilities and other identified outreach sites, adding that in some places door to door services will be conducted. Following outbreaks of polio in Malawi and Mozambique, Zimbabwe is making sure the disease stops at the border by double vaccinating all children under five, regardless of their previous vaccination history.
